After undergoing a knee replacement surgery, you have to be vigilant about knee movements and follow certain precautions, especially for a few months post-surgery.
Even though you can resume daily life activities after a while, you must be careful to avoid any injury. You can do lower-impact activities. However, you should not play sports or high-impact activities as it can deteriorate the knee condition and affect healing. Also, caution must be exercised during any activity which involves bending the knee or involves moving, such as riding a car, getting in and out of the car, etc.
Can a patient use a recliner after knee replacement surgery?
Yes, but make sure you don’t overdo it. You can sleep in a recliner after knee replacement surgery. A recliner is a good choice because you can elevate your legs. As your legs are restricted to limited positions that are safe to sleep in after surgery, you may actually find a recliner chair more comfortable. Thus, promoting recovery faster. A recliner is the best chair to sit in after a knee replacement surgery. While recliners are indeed comfortable for napping, they’re not the best option for overnight sleeping on a regular basis.
Will I face problems in airport security after knee replacement surgery?
Most knee replacement implants will activate metal detectors at airports. However, to make it less time-consuming, you can contact airport security beforehand. You can tell the security officers about your joint replacement when you get near the security area and tell them where your implant is located.
Moreover, your orthopedic surgeon can provide proof of surgery as well as a joint replacement card (if available) to present evidence of an implant at the airport. You may still be asked to undergo a body scan machine to confirm the implant. Therefore, it is always advisable to consider additional time while travelling for the screening.
