Quick Take

A Facebook video claims that juice made from carrots, cucumber, and lemon is a natural UTI treatment. We verified the assertion. Our analysis indicates that the claim is only Half True.

The Claim

A Facebook reel suggests that consuming juice made from carrots, cucumber, and lemon will treat UTIs naturally. The screenshot of the same has been shared below.

Fact Check

What exactly are urinary tract infections?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused by bacteria that reach the urinary tract. When one urinates, the majority of the harmful bacteria is expelled out. As a result, if the bacteria is not entirely cleared from the system, the residual bacteria in the urinary tract have the potential to cause illness. Furthermore, the type of food ingested is closely associated with urinary tract infections. Thus, the molecules formed during digestion, as well as the acidity of the urine, have a substantial impact on the proliferation of bacteria in the urinary system. The symptoms of the illness include pain during urination, increased urination, and the urge to urinate despite an empty bladder. The UTIS may thus be greatly impacted by lifestyle modifications. Mostly, this entails getting plenty of water. Additionally, avoid foods that irritate the bladder, such as alcohol and caffeine.

Can natural remedies be used to manage urinary tract infections?

Yes, to a certain extent. Be aware that treating UTIs frequently involves the use of antibiotics. But too many antibiotics might compromise the beneficial bacteria needed for a powerful immune system. As a result, using antibiotics frequently poses the risk of causing the growth of bacteria that are resistant to them and subsequently having a considerable impact on antibiotics’ effectiveness. Therefore, it is suggested to use antibiotics cautiously. Natural antimicrobial medicines could be used to treat UTIs safely and efficiently without raising the danger of antibiotic resistance. The key components of these natural remedies include cranberry, blueberry, vitamins, salts, and sugars.

Can a juice recipe with carrots, cucumber, and lemon be used to address urinary tract infections naturally?

Not exactly. Please note that all three of the components are healthy. Therefore, it is safe to consume these. Also worth noting is the possibility that not all of the recipe’s components will be effective for the condition.

Carrot is an antioxidant goldmine. The body’s inflammation can be minimized or even completely cured by drinking carrot juice. Additionally, carrots contain a wealth of vitamins and minerals. Carrot juice is among the best vegetable juices for overall wellness. It promotes blood flow and healthy circulation. Carrot juice fortifies the immune system by defending the body against inflammation, harmful bacteria, viruses, and free radical damage. Carrot seed extracts also have notable analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and hepatoprotective properties.

Fruits like Cucumbers  are bioactive and have a lot to give. Hydration, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels are all managed by cucumber. They are rich in magnesium, manganese, potassium, fibre, and vitamins A, C, and K. Cucumbers have additional health benefits due to their antimicrobial, detoxification, and digestive characteristics. These also have a moderate diuretic capacity that might help with weight loss.

Lemon has diuretic properties. Lemons, which are high in vitamin C, could assist in removing pathogenic bacteria from the bladder by flushing bacterial toxins from the body. Additionally, it has been discovered that consuming its juice can help avoid recurrent urinary tract infections by modifying the acidic and sugar-rich environment that supports bacterial growth. However, drinking lemon juice frequently could cause irritation. It is therefore advised to avoid drinking citrus juice if one is exposed to intense radiation or allergies.

Lemon juice, carrots, and cucumber may reduce the severity of urinary tract infection. Furthermore, these natural products contain a wide variety of bioactive compounds that can be used as a starting point for the development of a new therapy. However, there is no concrete evidence that this juice recipe could successfully treat urinary tract infections.

Kamna Tank, Nutritionist

We asked nutritionist Kamna Tank whether this juice recipe would be beneficial in addressing UTIs. She advised Yes, it has a preventative function. Since food and liquids are nature’s medicines, urinary tract infections can be addressed naturally with juice recipes that include carrots, cucumber, and lemon. Beta carotene, a water-soluble vitamin A compound found in carrots, helps to filter toxins from the blood and guards against urinary tract infections. Because of its diuretic properties, lemon prevents bacteria from developing, while cucumber aids in the removal of toxins from the body. Consequently, using these drinks in your regular routine aids in the prevention of infection.

Is it risky to cure UTIs entirely with natural remedies?

Yes, it may be risky. Probiotics, bioactive natural foods, antibiotics, and basic personal hygiene are used in the prevention and treatment of chronic or recurring UTIs. Thus, scientific support in the form of successful clinical trial outcomes could increase the reliance on herbal remedies for the treatment of UTIs.

However, it is difficult to ensure that all cases of urinary tract infections are treatable using natural remedies. In case of complicated urinary tract infections that remain untreated, the infection can spread from the bladder to organs to cause permanent damage.

THIP Media Take: It is important to note that using medicinal herbs has many benefits. These have fewer negative impacts, are less expensive, and are renewable organically. However, it is still unknown how the juice recipe works to treat urinary tract infections. This necessitates a more detailed investigation. Therefore, we conclude that the assertion is only half true.
