UTIs occur when bacteria or fungi enter the urethra from the skin or rectum and infect the urinary tract. UTI mostly affects the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
A urinary tract infection (UTI) causes inflammation in the urinary tract. Inflammation is the process through which the affected area of the body swells up and turns red to induce pain.
Inflammation is the body’s immune system’s response to a foreign particle such as a germ. This means that inflammation starts when the body is trying to fight against the harmful irritant.
Is UTI infection curable?
Possible. UTI is spread by bacteria and fungi. So the infection can be cured completely. People can cure UTI if they properly follow the treatment given by the doctor. The treatment of UTI includes antibiotics that help clear the symptoms. However, in certain cases, the condition can reoccur.
A research paper published in 2013 has shown that the infection can reoccur if people get reinfected by the same microbe.
Besides this, an article published by Harvard Health shows that some women are prone to developing frequent UTIs. Bacteria such as Escherichia coli that cause UTIs spreads faster in pre-menopausal women. But certain body changes in post-menopausal women can make some women prone to infection.
Is UTI dangerous?
Yes. When the infection goes unnoticed and UTI spreads to the kidney, the condition can become dangerous. Evidence shows that the infection can mix with the blood after infecting the kidneys to affect all the organs of the body.
How long UTI takes to cure?
The available evidence shows that a doctor can prescribe antibiotics for three days up to one or two weeks. The increase in the number of days depends upon the severity of the infection.
