When wisdom teeth come through the gums, they could cause some mild discomfort and tenderness. However, if there isn’t enough room for the wisdom teeth to grow or if they erupt incorrectly, they could cause jaw discomfort, swelling, or stiffness. Incorrect wisdom tooth emergence also has an impact on oral hygiene. This causes bad breath, bleeding gums, and difficulties chewing. This write-up provides a summary of the various causes, symptoms, and medical treatments for the discomfort caused by wisdom teeth.

Is the emergence of wisdom teeth painful?

No, not always. The wisdom teeth are the last teeth to emerge from the gums. They start to appear at the very back of the mouth. These are four in number. These can be found in the top and bottom corners of the mouth. It’s critical to understand that wisdom teeth might place pressure on nearby teeth and the gums. Pain and discomfort are brought on by this. And this tenderness typically follows a cyclical pattern. The swelling and probable impaction of the gum flap that covers the biting surface of the wisdom tooth could worsen the discomfort.

What does wisdom tooth pain feel like?

Typically, these teeth start to erupt between the ages of 17 and 21. They usually breach the gums. As a result, when a tooth pierces the gums, it could hurt. It’s important to be aware that, in some cases, discomfort brought on by wisdom teeth may be very severe. This pain may radiate to your jaw or the back of your mouth.

Additionally, because the adult teeth have grown in, these frequently do not have sufficient space in a person’s mouth. They may partially erupt at an angle or get impacted and not fully emerge due to the restriction of space. This problem is referred to as impacted teeth. When food and bacteria become lodged in the gums, gum diseases and mouth infections can follow. This could cause swelling, irritation, and pain. This causes gum problems and mouth infections. As a result of these infections, there may be swelling, itching, and pain. It can uncomfortable for you if the expanded gum flap gets caught between the teeth. In most cases, flare-ups end after 7–10 days. Furthermore, an impacted tooth can damage the neighboring teeth.

Does the pain caused by the wisdom teeth go away?

Yes. A dentist can help you manage the pain, soreness, and discomfort. To cure minor cases, you can use some natural therapies can be applied. The main ingredients in these home remedies are ice packs, cloves, onions, and teabags. The problem can also be medically managed with numbing gels and painkillers. However, these treatments are usually unable to entirely numb the severe pain. The dentist will therefore surgically remove the problematic impacted teeth in such circumstances.
