How much of an impact will Covid-19 have on people with asthma?

There are no studies that suggest Covid-19 has a drastic effect on people with asthma. However, it is common for people to feel stressed and become anxious about deadly pandemics. In such a scenario, people with asthma may suffer from an asthma attack. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued precautionary guidelines for people with moderate to severe asthma. It is because people with asthma are more likely to be hospitalised from Covid-19. In addition to this, another study has shown that hospitalisation due to Covid-19 is low among people with asthma. However, the increased risk for hospitalisation is due to age, health-related comorbidities and death in older people.

The available studies do not confirm that children and young adults with asthma are suffering from a severe impact of Covid-19. Moreover, researchers have not found a link between sensitive airways increasing the intensity of Covid-19 among people.

Although asthma and Covid-19 are not linked, it is recommended for people with asthma to take extra precautions and avoid their triggers at all cost. Studies have shown that Covid-19 worsen conditions among people with compromised immunity. So, it is crucial to maintain good health by avoiding the triggers of asthma and Covid-19.
