She guides us on how a doctor-patient relation should go.

When a patient explains to you about their health problems, what are the most common mistakes they make in their communication?

One of the most common errors in doctor-patient communication is the tendency of the patients to withhold or inaccurately disclose their medical history.

What does health literacy mean to you, and why is it important in patient care?

Health literacy means a lot, as it helps us to treat patients in a better and more effective way.

If a patient is knowledgeable about the basics of their health condition, how helpful is it for the overall treatment procedure?

Very helpful. When patients are knowledgeable about their health condition, it greatly benefits doctors in several ways. Firstly, it facilitates clearer and more accurate communication between the patient and the healthcare provider, enabling a better understanding of the patient’s symptoms, concerns, and medical history. This, in turn, helps doctors to make more informed decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment options. Additionally, informed patients are often more engaged in their own healthcare, which can lead to better adherence to treatment plans and healthier lifestyle choices.

How much can medical misinformation impact treatment procedures?

Medical misinformation can occasionally change the approach to managing a particular disease.

What are the most common myths or misinformation you see your patients falling prey to?

Misconceptions and medical misinformation abound when it comes to health-related behaviors. One common myth is the reluctance of individuals, particularly young girls, to disclose their sexual activity status, potentially leading to missed diagnoses such as ectopic pregnancies. Pregnant women may also hide their medical history fearing harm to their baby. Additionally, faking symptoms and doctor shopping can result in misdiagnoses or neglect of underlying conditions. Another harmful belief is delaying seeking proper treatment until the disease reaches its advanced stages, which can significantly worsen outcomes. It’s crucial to address these myths and encourage open communication with healthcare providers for accurate diagnosis and timely intervention.

What is your most common advice to patients to stay away from health misinformation online?

My advice would be if you find anything online, check whether it is from a trusted documented source or check with your health care provider before following anything blindly.
