Fact Check
Is it true that the WHO will list vaccinations as mandatory for you to travel?
No. We found no evidence that confirms WHO will list vaccinations as mandatory for you to travel. There is no official statement on the WHO’s website and no statements from officials that can confirm the claim.
Our research only shows that the WHO does not have the complete authority to directly impose mandatory vaccinations for travel globally. It can only recommend various vaccinations for travel based on health risks, but these are not universally mandatory. Individual countries can set their mandatory travel vaccination requirements.
As we tried to search for source behind such a claim, we found about a joint initiative by the WHO and the European Commission named the Digital Health Certificate. This initiative aims to establish a worldwide system to safeguard citizens against ongoing and future health threats, including pandemics. However, as of now, there is no hint at any potential loss of national sovereignty due to the WHO-EU partnership.
THIP Media has previously debunked various social media posts that spread disinformation online, utilizing references from the WHO. In one instance, we refuted a claim attributed to the WHO, stating that the failure to find a sexual partner is a disability. Another fact-check involved disproving an assertion attributed to the WHO chief, alleging that booster shots of the COVID vaccine were intended to harm children. Additionally, we debunked the misinformation that the WHO’s chief remained unvaccinated as of September 2023.
