A video on Facebook in the Tagalog language is selling a product claiming that it cures various stomach illnesses, including ulcers, acid reflux, and bleeding. The post also claims that the product has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a governing body that approves products for commercial use.
Fact Check
Has the Philippines found a cure for stomach diseases?
No. The Philippines has not found a cure for stomach diseases. Even a representative for the Philippine Society of Gastroenterology has confirmed AFP the same. Also, we could not find any evidence that proves FDA has approved a product as shown in the claimed video.
The FDA advises people not to consume unregistered food products as these have not been evaluated properly. FDA cannot guarantee their safety and quality.
Dr Sharad Malhotra, Gastroenterologist at the Aakash Hospital, Delhi says, “Food supplements that claims ‘all natural’ cure or treatment can be misleading and does not cure stomach problems. It is essential to know whether the product you want to consume has been proven effective for stomach diseases.”
He further informs, “There are plenty of good home remedies for certain gastrointestinal problems. However, there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. Hence, we need to see what we are taking. For stomach problems, it is best to consult with a gastroenterologist to determine the necessary steps for the diagnosis and manage the condition.”
