Fact Check

Does Ben Carson have a cure for dementia?

No. We found no evidence that shows Ben Carson has a cure for dementia. Claims circulating online suggesting otherwise are false.

Our research shows that Dr. Ben Carson is a retired pediatric neurosurgeon. His expertise lies in brain surgery, not in dementia research or treatment. There is no evidence to support claims of a cure for dementia discovered by Dr. Carson. Our research only shows a podcast in which Carson addressed the ongoing development of new drugs for Alzheimer’s. He expressed optimism about their potential, stating that they show promise by purportedly targeting the root cause of the disease rather than just alleviating symptoms. Notably, he did not mention anything that the new drugs have the ability to reverse dementia within a week.

Continuing our research, we even found different versions of the claimed Facebook post where Ben Carson was seen with Bruce Willis and Dolly Parton. Similar to the claimed Facebook post, these posts also serves as a testimonial expressing gratitude towards Dr. Ben Carson for his successful treatment of dementia. The post further claims that Dr. Ben Carson’s innovative approach to treating dementia/Alzheimer’s disease, without dependence on pharmaceuticals, has garnered widespread attention. In the end, the post discusses a promising development, suggesting that within seven days, one’s memory could potentially be restored to the level it was at the age of 21.

We often find social media posts claiming a cure for dementia. They use fabricated headlines and misleading information. In a previously done fact-check, we debunked Elon Musk and Kelly Clarkson promoting gummies. We also refuted the assertion that Martha Stewart promotes COPD Gummies. Similarly, we exposed the claim of Dr. Oz promoting a cure for prostate cancer.

So, it is important to be cautious of such content and verify information from reputable sources.

Can dementia be cured?

No, as of now. Dementia is a broad term that does not refer to a specific disease but encompasses a range of conditions characterized by difficulties in remembering, thinking, or making decisions, ultimately hindering the ability to carry out daily activities. Among the various types of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease is the most prevalent. While dementia predominantly impacts older adults, it is important to note that it is not an inherent aspect of normal aging. Also, the available evidence only indicates that dementia cannot be cured but can only be treated.
