What are yoni pearls?
Yoni pearls are a bunch of herbs wrapped in cloth meant for cleaning vaginas. These are called vaginal pearls, herbal tampons, and vaginal detox pearls. It seems the claimed video on Facebook selling these yoni pearls. The claimant named Shayla’s solutions has attached the website link from where people can place an order.
We could not find credible evidence that enlists these herbs. So, we referred to a blog that informs yoni pearls contain osthol, rhizoma, borneol, rhubarb, safflower, motherwort, peach, kernel, and angelica root. This blog further highlights that some brands claim to be organic but contain toxic chemicals.
Do yoni pearls cleanse the vagina?
No scientific evidence proves yoni pearls cleanse vagina. A few research papers have shown that the vagina is a self-cleaning organ. These studies also warned against inserting external products to get a sense of ‘feeling clean’.
Are yoni pearls good for vaginal detox?
No. A simple search about yoni pearls on PubMed showed zero results on yoni pearls. We searched about yoni pearls on GoogleScholar and found a case study published in 2022. This case study shows a 41-year-old hospitalized after inserting a yoni pearl for 36 hours.
Yoni pearls increase the risk of sepsis and toxic shock syndrome. Regular use of these pearls can reduce blood flow to kill tissues, create holes in body organs and abnormally connect body parts.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website does not recommend using yoni pearls. FDA has banned a brand selling yoni pearls and has warned against using such a product regularly.
We often find inconsistent social media posts that claim to improve vaginal health using quick home remedies. Similar to this story, we also debunked that groundnut water tightens the vagina.
