Quick Take

Various social media posts claim a link between COVID-19 Vaccines and hepatitis among children. We fact-checked and found this claim to be False.

The Claim

A social media post reads “74 CASES of Hepatitis now in kids in the UK and they say no relation to covid vaccines. Hepatitis is clearly listed in the Pfizer docs as being an adverse reaction so how is it not fucking related!?”

Similar posts can be seen here, here, and here. All of these are either directly or indirectly claiming that there is a link between Hepatitis and Covid vaccine.

Fact Check

What is Hepatitis?

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver and can be caused by autoimmune disorders, infection, or medication.

Is there a spike in cases of Hepatitis in children?

Yes. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that “On 5 April 2022, WHO was notified 10 cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown aetiology in children under the age of 10 years, across central Scotland. By 8 April, 74 cases had been identified in the United Kingdom.”

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) also announced spikes in cases of hepatitis among children and stated “Active case finding investigations have identified the total number of cases account to 145 till 25th April, pertaining to the regions of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

Other organizations, namely The CDC, and The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have also notified the public regarding the spike in Hepatitis cases.

What is the cause of Hepatitis in children?

Till now, the cause remains unknown. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) state that ‘Findings continue to suggest that the rise in sudden onset hepatitis in children may be linked to adenovirus infection, but other causes are still being actively investigated.’ It further states that it is investigating other factors such as environmental causes, Covid infection, and other infections.

Are children getting hepatitis due to Covid Vaccines?

No. Till now there is no scientific evidence that proves that children are getting hepatitis due to Covid Vaccine. Also, there is no proof available that shows that these children were injected with COVID Vaccines. THIP Media has already debunked the claim that kids are not getting hepatitis because of the J&J Covid vaccine.

Therefore, the claim remains false until there is subtle evidence that proves that children are getting Hepatitis due to covid vaccines.
