C-Section delivery is not the first choice for the doctors in most cases. It is only suggested when vaginal delivery is not possible or comes with a risk for the mother or foetus or both. It is done when there are certain complications during the pregnancy or at the time of delivery. it is mostly done when either the baby or the mother is suffering from any medical condition, the labour is stalled (i.e., the cervix is not opening), the baby is in distress, the mother is carrying multiple babies, the foetus is in an abnormal position or the umbilical cord is prolapsed.
C-section deliveries are also recommended in cases including prior history of C-section delivery (although it is not necessary in all cases), an obstruction in the birth canal, or the baby is hydrocephalus (head is abnormally large).
However, there are certain women who opt for elective C-section. The doctors generally recommend against it as it should not be a choice unless it is an emergency.
