What are the causes of eye cancer?
The exact cause of eye cancer is not known and can be a result of many different risk factors. Melanoma of the eye develops from the pigment-producing cells of the eye, squamous cell carcinoma develops in the squamous cells of the eye, lymphomas develop when risk factors affect the functioning of white blood cells and retinoblastoma is a childhood disorder.

Eye cancer occurs when exposure to certain risk factors damage the DNA of healthy eye cells. Some of the types of eye cancer include eye melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, lymphoma and retinoblastoma.

Eye melanoma occurs when cancer-causing particles affect the normal functioning of pigment-producing cells. In squamous cell carcinomas, toxic cancer-causing particles affect the normal functioning of the squamous cells usually found in the skin and eyes.

Likewise, in lymphoma, the toxic cancer-causing particles affect the normal functioning and accumulation of the white blood cells. While retinoblastoma is more a childhood disorder that affects the cells of the retina.

Still, the exact cause of eye cancer is still not known. Researchers are still analysing how certain cancer-causing particles change the DNA inside the eye cells to induce cancer.
