An optometrist can perform some of the same tests that are a part of the clinical examination of the eye such as ocular tonometry, refraction assessment, retina examination, slit lamp examination, visual acuity testing and optical coherence tomography, etc. and in the process may detect abnormalities in the eye including tumours or cancer although final diagnosis is made by ophthalmologists.
