What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?

I like being able to make a difference in the lives of my patients. In a lot of cases, I meet my patients probably during the worst phases of their lives. I feel proud and satisfied to be able to help them then by being compassionate and caring.

When is a patient easy to treat?

It is easy to treat cooperative and understanding patients. My job gets easier when people are ready to trust me and my line of treatment and are patient throughout the course of treatment. It also helps when patients are diligent and are ready to accept the consequences and limitations of treatments.

When is a patient difficult to treat?

Non-cooperative, highly opinionated patients are tough to treat. A lot of patients go on the internet and believe the information from there and tend to disregard their doctors. This makes our jobs very difficult.

How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?

Some prior knowledge is advantageous as it saves time. It becomes easier to convince the patient for a particular course of treatment. However, in some cases, it can also lead to patients unnecessarily interfering during the treatment, which can be detrimental to the procedure.

How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?

Patients can refer to books and informative websites, research articles and have discussions with healthcare experts.

How does medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?

It is a serious problem. People these days tend to believe on things they find on the internet more than their doctors. This can lead to very serious health concerns.

A few advice that you always give to your patients…

Patience is the key whenever you encounter a health problem. One should also from unnecessary information prevalent on the internet and gather information from reliable and authentic sites only. People should also try to avoid a sedentary lifestyle, exercise regularly, eat healthy diet and try to remain happy.
