How to increase weight?

To safely increase weight, focus on a balanced approach that combines a nutrient-dense diet, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle habits. Consume a good amount of calories by incorporating whole foods like lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Opt for smaller, frequent meals to maintain a steady calorie intake. Include strength training exercises in your fitness routine to build muscle mass. Stay hydrated and prioritise quality sleep to support overall well-being. Avoid relying on processed or high-sugar foods for weight gain, as these can lead to unhealthy outcomes. Patience is key, and gradual, sustainable changes will promote a safe and effective weight increase.

Is it advisable to consume high calorie food to increase weight?

While consuming high-calorie foods can contribute to weight gain, it’s crucial to prioritise the quality of those calories. Opt for nutrient-dense foods rich in proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates, such as lean meats, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and fruits. Avoid relying solely on empty-calorie, processed foods, or those high in added sugars , as they can lead to health issues.

Balanced nutrition, combined with regular exercise, especially strength training, is advisable for healthy weight gain.  Remember that gaining weight too quickly or through unhealthy means may have negative consequences on your overall well-being.

Does eating banana with elaichi increase weight?

No, Bananas and cardamom (elaichi) themselves do not have unique properties that directly cause weight gain. However, bananas are a good source of calories, particularly from carbohydrates, and can be a part of a calorie-dense diet that promotes weight gain. Cardamom, in moderation, is unlikely to contribute significantly to weight gain. Overall, a balanced diet with sufficient calories is crucial for weight gain.

Dietitian

Dt Harita Adhvaryu, Sr. Clinical Dietitian, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, says “There is no significant study or research which support the statement that “EATING BANANA WITH ELAICHI HELPS IN WEIGHT GAIN”. Banana is calorie dense food, if one consume banana with other calorie dense food like wheat, Rice or milk it may help to gain weight at great extent. But there is no evidence which proves that eating elaichi will help in weight gain either with bananas or any other food.”

Does rice with curd  increase weight gain?

No, While there is no conclusive evidence supporting the idea that the combination of rice and curd contributes to weight gain, individuals pursuing weight loss often incorporate this duo into their diets. Personal experiences vary, and factors like portion control and overall dietary choices play crucial roles in achieving weight-related goals. It’s essential to consider individual preferences and nutritional needs when determining the impact of specific food combinations on weight management.

When asked, Dt Harita Adhvaryu said, “Curd is loaded with essential nutrients like calcium, potassium, magnesium, vit B2 & B12 and is the best natural source of probiotics that improve your gut health and digestion. If you consume curd in the right  amount it may help you in weight loss but if you consume it in excess which is made from high fat whole milk it may result in weight gain. White rice is modified or refined, high in carbohydrate content with high glycemic index. If you consume in excess amount without removing its starch with no fibre rich food it may help to gain weight after 2-3 month continuous consumption. To use rice to gain weight you need to increase glycemic load of the grain.”

Does eating watermelon with jaggery help increase weight?

No, Eating watermelon with jaggery may not significantly contribute to weight gain. Watermelon is low in calories and high in water content, while jaggery, a calorie-dense sweetener, might offer some energy. For effective weight gain, focus on a balanced diet with nutrient-rich foods, including proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats. Consultation with a healthcare professional or nutritionist can help create a tailored plan for healthy weight gain.

Dt Adhvaryu further added, “Jaggery is a rich source of carbohydrate and iron when added to water melon juice it can give a quick energy boost and its right combination like iron rich Jaggery and vitamin C rich watermelon can enhance your iron absorption. So this combination will help you to decrease nutritional deficiency but there is no scientific evidence which can prove that it may help to gain weight. It may help with nutritional betterment of an individual.”

Does eating khajur with milk increase weight gain?

Maybe Dates (khajur) and milk can contribute to weight gain due to their calorie and nutrient content, but the key is moderation and balance. Dates are a good source of natural sugars, fibre, and various vitamins and minerals. Milk provides protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients. To incorporate them for weight gain, include them as part of a well-rounded diet. For example, you can add dates to oatmeal or yogurt and have a glass of milk as a snack. However, excessive consumption of any food can lead to an imbalance and potentially unhealthy weight gain.

Dt Harita Adhvaryu said, “Dates are rich in carbohydrates, natural sugars, and calories. Milk is a good source of proteins, calcium, and healthy fats. When combined with dates, it provides a balanced nutritional profile, promoting muscle growth and supporting overall weight gain. Also dates contain tryptophan, an amino acid that promotes relaxation and better sleep quality. Quality sleep is essential for weight gain. Research base study also promotes date & Milk as the best combination for weight gain.”

Does kharbooja with sugar increase weight?

No, Muskmelon (Kharbooja) and sugar can provide additional  added calories and natural sugars, contributing to an increase in overall calorie intake. However, it’s important to note that weight gain is a result of consuming more calories than your body burns. While these foods can add sweetness and flavour, it’s crucial to maintain a balanced diet and not rely solely on specific combinations. Additionally, moderation is key to ensure a healthy and sustainable approach to weight gain.

And lastly Dt Harita Adhvaryu said, “Every food has its own taste and post-ingestive effects. When two foods, having different tastes are combined, it can lead to an imbalance in the digestive contents of the stomach, explains the expert. Such a combination can also cause indigestion and gas formation in the body. You may even feel uneasy or fatigued throughout the day. So better to avoid Melon with sugar.”
