A video is being circulated on social media claiming that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States Joe Biden, has refused the RT PCT test. We fact-checked and found that the claim is half true.
The video circulated on social media is titled, “Will Dr. Fauci Take a PCR COVID test?” In the video, Dr. Fauci is seen in a television interview where he says, “I won’t take the test. I have no symptoms. I am practicing good social distancing. Not everybody is US should take the test.”. The post can be seen on Instagram and YouTube.
Is the video real? Did Dr. Fauci say he doesn’t want to take the RT PCR test?
Yes. The video is real. Dr. Anthony Fauci did say those words.
However, an important context that needs to be considered here is that the video is from an interview was conducted in March 2020, when COVID-19 pandemic was in its early days and RT PCR testing was not widely available in the U.S.
The full length video interview is available on CNN website and can be seen here. In the video Dr. Fauci clearly mentioned, “If I’m in a situation where I’m at a higher risk, I will take a test.”
So, though Dr. Fauci did say that he will not take an RT PCR test, he mentioned it in a different context altogether.
