Is food addiction difficult to break? How to do it?

Medically Reviewed by Checkmark Medically Reviewed By: Sheela Krishnaswamy

The difficulty in breaking a food addiction differs from person to person. It depends on how addicted a person is or how far the condition has progressed before a person is seeking any treatment. It needs to be treated as it can worsen over time.

One can try to break the food addiction by making a trigger list in which one can jot down the situation that trigger cravings and must be avoided altogether.

Make a list of pros and cons in which you can remind yourself of the demerits of consuming food. Another list should be of all the personal goals, unhealthy food items, places to avoid, and healthy places to visit.

Start eating healthy, and make a diet plan while preparing your body for the withdrawal symptoms. Please note that one must seek professional advice from a mental health expert.
