Why is Vitamin D important for our body?

Vitamin D, like all other Vitamins in our body, plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of our body. The most important role of Vitamin D is to help the body absorb Calcium and Phosphorus and thereby maintain a healthy skeletal system.

It develops strong bones and teeth, modulates the growth of a cell, helps in neuromuscular and immune function, and reduces inflammation. It also absorbs the release of parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone reabsorbs bone tissue making them thin and brittle.

Vitamin D also helps in improving the immune system, cardiovascular function, keep your respiratory system healthy and also helps in brain development.

According to a 2006 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, vitamin D reduces the risk of multiple sclerosis. As per 2008 findings published in a circulation in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it also decreases the chance of developing heart disease. Vitamin D also reduces the likelihood of developing the flu, as per 2010 research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
