Quick Take
A number of social media posts claim that the CEO of BioNTech has not been vaccinated against COVID-19. BioNTech is the German biotechnology company and is the co-inventor and manufacturer of one of the COVID-19 vaccine along with Pfizer. We fact checked the claim and found it to be false.
The Claim
A Facebook video post claims, “Dr Ugur Sahin CEO of #BioNTech and inventor of the BioNTech/#Pfizer jab refuses to take the jab for safety reasons.” The post can be seen here.
The post had also been shared on Twitter and few websites.
Fact Check
Did Dr Ugur Sahin CEO of BioNTech avoided the COVID-19 vaccine?
No. There is no evidence for this claim.
Rather, Dr. Sahin had given an interview to the Times of London on September 2021 where he mentioned that he and his wife both got vaccinated and experienced no side effects.
Most of the users who shared the video or posted the claim referred to an old video of Dr Ugur that was published on a German media website on their YouTube channel December 22, 2020. Vaccination started in Germany after December 26, 2020.
The old video was shared out of context currently claiming that Dr Sahin has not received the COVID-19 vaccine. However, this is false.
