A video shared a few months ago by Dr. Manish Sharma, CMHO, Gwalior, India is still doing rounds on social media. In the video the doctor is seen showing 7 exercises and claiming that it will prevent Covid-19. We fact-checked and found no scientific evidence about this claim. We rate this as false.
The Claim
In the video, Dr. Sharma claims, “My name is Dr. Manish Sharma. I am CMHO Gwalior. I request everyone to practice these seven exercises which will boost our immunity and prepare our bodies to fight against coronavirus. If you do so, you will never have coronavirus infection in life. These are simple exercises that can be done anywhere and anytime. Each exercise is supposed to be done for 30 seconds.” He demonstrated seven exercises in the video. A screenshot of the video is given below.

Who is Dr. Manish Sharma?
Dr. Manish Sharma is the Chief Medical Health Officer of Gwalior, a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India.
Are the exercises shown by him to prevent Covid effective and valid to prevent Covid-19?
No. There is no scientific evidence to the claim. The World Health Organization has not recommended any such exercises as a preventive measure to the Covid infection. The Indian Health Ministry or the AYUSH ministry also has not supported any such claim.
Did the health ministry respond to the claim?
The Madhya Pradesh health department had served a show-cause notice to Dr. Sharma after the video went viral in October 2020. The 76-page notice document is available on the website of the Directorate of Health Services, Madhya Pradesh. The notice mentions that Dr. Sharma’s claim is misleading and not in accordance with the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the state government.
