Can Vitamin D deficiency cause menstrual problems in young women?

Published on:

The deficiency of Vitamin D may affect the length of menstrual cycle in young women. Irregular menstrual cycle delays pregnancy and may affect ovulation. As per a research, Vitamin D status influences the length of menstrual cycle through an association with longer follicular phase (delayed ovulation).

It is important to maintain adequate levels of Vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D helps in keeping the overall body healthy, it also reduces menstrual cramps in women and makes periods regular.

Ultraviolet B rays from sunlight is a good source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D can also be obtained by taking supplements and also through few foods. Fatty fish such as salmon, herring, and mackerel are also some of the sources of Vitamin D.
