What are the common signs of stress?

Stress is a natural human response to pressure when faced with any kind of demand or challenging situations. Stress can be physical, behavioural, emotional, and cognitive.

Stress can affect various parts of the body system including nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, skin, endocrine system, gastro-intestinal system, immune system and reproductive system.

Nervous system related symptoms include depression, anxiety, dizziness, insomnia and changes in weight.

Respiratory system related symptoms include difficulty in breathing and feeling of tightness in chest.

Cardiovascular system related symptoms include pain in chest, heart palpitations and high BP.

Skin related symptoms include rashes, sweating and itching.

Endocrine System related symptoms include increased levels of stress hormones.

Gastro-intestinal System related symptoms include acidity, heartburn and indigestion.

Immune System related symptoms include lower immunity, slower healing of injuries and wounds

Reproductive System related symptoms include lowered libido, erectile dysfunction in male or painful menstrual cycle in female.

Stress levels take a big toll on the mind and mood. It can challenge a person to do his best work, but it can also overwhelm the inner resources. If a person feels any of the signs above, he is under stress.
