Is an appendix removal operation a painful procedure?

No. The operation is usually done under general anesthesia, which means that the patient will be asleep during the operation. As a result of the anesthesia, the patient won’t feel any pain during the procedure.

However, the surgical area may get tender during the healing process. You may feel weak and tired for a few days after the surgery, which is normal. You may notice swelling on your belly, and it can be painful too. Pain at the incision sites and in your abdomen is common. You might also have pain in your shoulders if you have undergone laparoscopic surgery. The pain usually goes away after a few days.
