How do people develop stage 4 cancer without noticing until it’s too late?

There can be many reasons for cancer to remain unnoticed till stage four. In most cases, cancer shows symptoms, but people often ignore them because breathlessness, excessive weakness, or pain are common health issues. In general, people do not consider these symptoms seriously and do not visit a doctor for a check-up. However, the early symptoms of cancer are quite common and easily curable.

Besides this, some metastatic cancers can mask themselves till the last stage. Metastasis makes cancer grow out from one place and spread throughout the body. Some metastatic cancers do not show symptoms till the last stage.

Many people with cancer are unaware of the cancer symptoms and have a lack of health literacy. People do not know much about the risk factors of common lifestyle-related diseases like cancer and ongoing research to find a possible cure.

The delay in prognosis also occurs due to demeaning cultural attitudes towards seeking medical care. Some people feel scared and embarrassed of a cancer diagnosis.

Apart from social thinking, no treatment and diagnostic tools keep cancer undiagnosed. The World Health Organization (WHO) has shown that proper treatment of cancer is only available in 90 per cent of high income-countries and 15 per cent of low-income countries.
