In most cases, lifestyle changes and diet can have significant positive effect on chronic low blood pressure.

The line of treatment is mostly treating the cause of your symptoms. You rarely require treatment if you are suffering from low blood pressure without symptoms or with mild.

If a certain medication is causing hypotension, your doctor provider may recommend changing or stopping the medication or lowering the dose. One must not do this on their own without consulting a doctor.

Depending on the age, health and the type of low blood pressure, there are several ways to elevate the blood pressure and reduce symptoms, such as consuming a diet high in salt, drinking more water and other non-alcoholic fluids, avoiding heavy lifting, limiting alcoholic beverages, exercising regularly to promote blood flow, etc.

One can also try wearing compression stockings, or support stockings, as they improve blood flow from the legs to the heart by restricting blood flow to the legs, thus keeping more blood in the upper body. Avoid standing still in place for long periods of time and avoid prolonged exposure to hot water.

Be careful when you rise up from lying down or sitting. You can pump your feet and ankles a few times in order to help improve blood circulation before standing up. After that, proceed slowly. While getting out of your bed, first sit on the edge of the bed for a couple of minutes before standing.

Medicine to increase blood pressure is rarely needed because simple lifestyle measures or treating the underlying cause are usually effective. Although drugs are available to treat low blood pressure that occurs when standing up or orthostatic hypotension. It must be noted that these drugs must be taken with medical guidance and prescription.
