How can I prevent a cold?

You cannot prevent a cold but only take appropriate measures to reduce the intensity of symptoms that include sneezing, runny nose, cough and sore throat. Cold is a communicable disease because the virus can easily spread from an infected person to healthy people. You can only reduce the risk of getting a cold by washing hands often with soap and water, not touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands and staying away from people who are sick.

Besides this, measures such as staying at home, avoiding close contact with others, proper disposal of used tissues, disinfection of surroundings etc. can also prevent you from spreading cold to others. In case you feel the cold is building up, try following suitable measures such as staying hydrated, taking complete rest, gargling with water, taking over-the-counter medicines etc. to prevent the condition from worsening.
