How can a vaccine prevent lung cancer?

Medically Reviewed by Checkmark Medically Reviewed By: Dr. Sravanthi Sunkaraneni

No vaccine can prevent lung cancer. Cancer vaccines only treat lung cancer by inhibiting the growth and spread of fast-growing cancer cells within the body.

Cancer vaccines are also called therapeutic vaccines that make the immune system stronger by mostly targeting proteins which are not normally found within the healthy cells. Although there are some vaccines that do not target proteins, they are not widely used by doctors worldwide and are mostly under trial or case-specific.
