Does vaping increase the risk of developing lung cancer?
Not known yet. The available scientific evidence does not confirm if vaping causes lung cancer. However, there is evidence suggesting that both e-cigarettes and vaping products contain toxic components such as N-Nitrosnornicotine, nitrosamine ketone, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which could be associated with lung cancer. But these vaping constituents are less carcinogenic than those in tobacco cigarettes.

Not known yet. The available scientific evidence does not confirm if vaping causes lung cancer. Cancerresearchuk.org suggests that e-cigarettes contain some potentially dangerous chemicals that are linked to lung cancer. However, the levels of these chemicals are lower as compared to tobacco cigarettes and not enough to induce cancer.

Hopkinsmedicine.org suggests that ‘vaping products haven’t been around long enough for us to learn whether or not they cause cancer’. There is evidence that the vapours from e-cigarettes contain DNA-damaging components such as formaldehyde, acrolein and methylglyoxal compounds which may induce lung cancer.

Also, in the context of potentially cancer-causing chemicals, a (2021) study shows that e-cigarettes and vaping fluids contain nitrosnornicotine, nitrosamine ketone, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, organometal compounds, aldehydes and other complex organic compounds which can be toxic to living cells, hence, becoming a significant area of concern for future studies.

In conclusion, the available evidence seems ambiguous but provides enough scientific basis for more studies to find whether e-cigarettes and vaping fluids have the capability of inducing tumour formation.
