Can mental stress cause mouth ulcers?

While there is no direct evidence to support that mental stress can cause mouth ulcer, there are some evidence that suggests that stress can aggravate a mouth ulcer condition.

That said, mouth ulcers can lead to stress in may cases. Mouth ulcers can be painful and cause problems in talking, eating, chewing and drinking. The social stress attached to the condition can lead to psychological stress and thereby cause delay in healing.

While most mouth ulcers are easily treatable by food restrictions and over-the-counter ointments, a chronic mouth ulcer existing for more than 2 weeks may require medical intervention. Talk to your dentist in such cases to identify the cause and cure of the ulcer.
