To a certain extent. As per Ayurveda, the early stages (sadhya awastha) of cancer can be managed with diet/herbs and lifestyle modifications. During the late stages, Ayurveda is better considered as supportive therapy that improves the quality of living.
Ayurveda is believed to be an effective complementary and alternative medicine for various cancers as it stimulates self-healing abilities. A few studies published in the AYU Journal show ayurvedic herbs and treatments have a curative role against breast cancer, brain tumour, cervical cancer and blood cancer.
Ayurvedic cancer treatment includes techniques with a focus on plants to promote natural and mostly non-invasive healing. A study published in 2010 provides a list of plants that are considered to have anti-cancer properties. Another study published in 2021 suggests ayurvedic herbs must be explored further due to their preventive and curative properties.
In India, the AYUSH Ministry that supports ayurvedic research has approved AYUSH QOL-2C drug to improve the quality of life among cancer patients and Carctol S therapy for Ovarian Cancer.
Even though available research papers recommend ayurvedic treatment to treat cancer, we need human trials to establish Ayurveda as a general treatment for commercial use. Also, more case studies can better explain the effectiveness of herbs or plants against cancer cell multiplication.
Because cancer cells have a quick proliferative nature, it is quite difficult to reverse or manage the condition. So as of now, Ayurveda does not seem to have a complete cure for all cancer types and stages.
