India’s two fact-checking platforms THIP Media and Newschecker have come together to form a strategic partnership to make people aware about health-related misinformation and debunk common health perceptions. Both are third-party fact-checking partners to Meta (Facebook). The partnership is aimed at utilising the capabilities of each other to fact-check health-related myths and misinformation in some regional languages of India and South Asia.
This collaboration will provide a joint platform to THIP Media’s health expertise and Newschecker’s language capabilities. This effort would also help to target a larger set of audience in regional languages and provide authentic health information. This platform will be further used to make people aware of facts even before a particular misinformation gets viral in their language.
Both teams will work together to identify and fact-check health myths and misinformation on social media. Because fake news and myths often get translated and distributed to different sets of audiences, this alliance will help to proactively guide a larger set of audiences in multiple Indian and South Asian languages.
The Healthy Indian Project’s media arm THIP Media and Newschecker are fact-checking platforms of India. While THIP Media debunks health misinformation, Newschecker is known for providing fact checks in 12 different languages.
