What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?

The best thing about treating the patient for me is when I see awareness and compliance about their treatment in the patients.

When is a patient easy to treat?

It is easy to treat the patient who are complaint and ready to follow the treatment course at a proper time with regular follow up.

When is a patient difficult to treat?

Non-compliance among the patients is very common, and that is when it becomes very difficult to treat the patients. Moreover, they engage in cross consultation and raise queries, which create confusions about the medication and treatment. In a lot of cases, patients start taking treatment advice from people who don’t have the expertise, like pharmacists which hinders the process of their treatment.

How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?

If the patient is aware of the complications of their condition, it is easy to treat. However, in some emergency situations, when patient and their attendants become rigid about the treatment procedure on the basis of their knowledge and stop complying with their doctor, it may result in adverse effects on the patient’s health.

How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?

A patient can improve their knowledge by gathering information from reliable sources. They can read medical articles from authentic sources on the internet, medical journals, etc. However, patients should always come back and discuss about their doubts or the information that they gathered with their doctors instead of blindly believing them.

How medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?

It is a serious problem. Medical misinformation can cause patients to postpone seeking medical care or choosing ineffective or even harmful treatments. For example, if a person believes that a specific home remedy or alternative therapy can cure a serious illness without any factual basis for it and stop listening to their doctors, it can lead to severe health implications.

A few advice that you always give to your patients…

I always advise my patients to listen to a qualified doctor, who has the expertise in treating your health condition. You should avoid taking medical advice from people like pharmacists or under-qualified medical professionals.
