What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?

My favorite aspect of treating patients is helping them achieve functional independence.

When is a patient easy to treat?

A patient is easy to treat when they are patiently following the prescribed protocol and are soft spoken and cooperative.

When is a patient difficult to treat?

It is difficult when a patient expects results within minutes, tries to bargain the cost of treatment, raises the voice, gossips with other patients or staff.

How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?

If a patient understands the treatment procedure and has knowledge about it, then they become a part of the treatment process. The lifestyle modifications are very easily followed which improves the outcome. The problem arises with the patients who depend on the internet and come with half-baked knowledge and try to modify the treatment as per their own will.

How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?

Ideally doctor should provide proper knowledge and text through social media platforms. Reading a few articles genuinely helps and so does watching videos by registered and proper medical health professionals.

How does medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?

Medical misinformation is a serious problem. It harms people’s health and undermines their healthy living.

A few advice that you always give to your patients

The World Health Organization defines health as a state of physical, mental and social well-being and thus it is imperative to focus on all the three aspects equally. So many spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health. Medical misinformation harms in several ways. It delays treatment, confuses the patient, makes them adopt treatments with no or poor level of evidence. Patients should read as much as possible about their ailments, but it is important to read beyond the headline, look for original source of research, act against fake news, avoid spreading the news without verification.
