What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?

I love connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and being a part of their healthcare journey. By utilising the knowledge and experience gained throughout my career, I strive to help people achieve better health outcomes and make a positive impact on their lives.

When is a patient easy to treat?

An ideal patient is one who has faith not only in their doctor but also the system and the healthcare process, as well as their own ability to contribute to their healing journey. Such patients are the best to treat.

When is a patient difficult to treat?

Patients with unrealistic expectations, as well as those who lack trust in the process can be challenging to treat. However, once doctors understand the real person beneath the surface and the underlying factors that make them ‘difficult’, no patient remains truly impossible to treat.

How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?

It will definitely make my job easier. For example, if a patient has a clear understanding of the recovery time of a thread lift or a laser procedure, it will be helpful. This is because they will be cooperative and less anxious, which will improve the overall treatment experience.

How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?

Referring to authentic sources of medical information like blogs and websites of qualified and experienced healthcare professionals is a good way to stay informed. However, one should be very careful as internet can be tricky and may lead you to false information.

How does medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?

The internet is full of home remedies like toothpaste, lemon, caustic sodas as quick solutions for acne and pigmentation. I have seen cases of first degree burns as a result of these ‘remedies’. You can also find unqualified individuals on the internet posing as healthcare specialists offering harmful or ineffective treatments. It is extremely important to seek professional advice before trying new remedies or treatments.

A few advice that you always give to your patients…

I always counsel my patients on taking a holistic approach to treating skin diseases. I focus on external treatments, while also encouraging them to take care of themselves. This includes making lifestyle changes, getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, improving their nutrition, and relying only on reliable sources of information.
