What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?

I love the fact that I get to interact with patients of all ages, and I am able to be a physician who does OPD as well as procedures to diagnose or treat the condition.

When is a patient easy to treat?

Ideal behaviour in a patient is an infrequent occurrence. When a patient visits you and trusts your knowledge more than the internet and is following all your advice properly, they are easy to treat.

When is a patient difficult to treat?

A difficult patient is one who thinks who knows the most about their condition and has already tried self-treatments as well. When you put all your effort into counselling regarding compliance and expectation but the patient follows their own heart, it is definitely difficult to treat.

How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?

If the patient is aware of the basics of the treatment, it becomes easy for a doctor to alleviate any fears or anxiety related to the same. But as they say, half knowledge is dangerous. Therefore, at times, it can also be difficult to make the patient see the thin line between right and wrong.

How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?

Social media is a boon in this case. Multiple educational profiles are available with doctors themselves explaining basic care and correct information regarding a disease or procedure. Patients can improve their knowledge through such pages provided they chose their doctors with the right qualifications.

How does medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?

Medical misinformation is dangerous. But what if I say it can also be life-threatening? I have seen so many cases where wrong medications have led to aggravation of the disease which was harbouring a small part of the hand and now involved the whole body. Or, after believing an unqualified person, taking the medicine every day which was supposed to be taken once a week and having side effects which aren’t easy to tackle. It is important that patients choose wisely when it comes to taking care of their bodies.

A few pieces of advice that you always give to your patients…

Cleanse, Hydrate & Protect. Everyone knows staying healthy means eating right and exercising. I always add three more things to this regimen, which include maintaining hygiene, hydrating yourself and protecting with sunscreen.
