What is the best thing you enjoy about treating patients?
Satisfaction of relieving a fellow human being’s misery by accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment is the part of the job that I love most.
When is a patient difficult to treat?
It gets very difficult to treat the patients who do not follow instructions properly, do not take their medicines on time, do not get the suggested tests done and miss appointments.
How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?
It is very helpful if the patient is aware about the basics of disease as it would result in realistic expectations about the possible outcomes.
How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?
Patients can read reliable articles in health magazines and authentic medical websites and gather information about their treatment procedures.
How medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?
It is a serious issue. Misinformation or half-baked information can be very dangerous and become just the thing that would make a difference between a positive and a negative outcome. I have seen patients not taking stroke symptoms seriously and coming back to hospital after deterioration just because they read or heard something somewhere randomly.
A few advice that you always give to your patients…
I always advice my patients to avoid searching on the internet about their symptoms because it can be misleading. Once they have been diagnosed by a specialist, then they can read about their disease on a good website.
