The best part of job I feel is when my patients are cured.
When is a patient easy to treat?
The patients who follow their doctors’ advice are easy to treat.
When is a patient difficult to treat?
When patients do not follow their doctors’ advice and instead rely on the internet for their treatment, it gets very difficult for us to do our jobs.
How helpful is it to the treatment course, if the patient is knowledgeable about the treatment procedure, benefits, risks etc.?
It is very helpful. For instance, a person with spine problem needs to understand the exact problem and the reason behind it. If a patient has some basic understanding of their condition, then it becomes easier for us to explain them about the ways to treat the condition and its symptoms.
How can a patient improve their knowledge about the treatment procedure?
Patients should carefully listen to their doctors. They can also refer to reliable sources on the internet. However, they should always come back and discuss whatever information they gathered on the internet with their doctor.
How medical misinformation act as a problem in the overall treatment procedure?
It is a very big problem. Information on the internet can make people afraid about undergoing surgeries. This is because there are many myths surrounding surgery and their outcomes. As a result, a lot of patients tend to avoid surgeries that they need to get better.
A few advice that you always give to your patients
I advise my patients to discuss about their concerns with their doctors in detail instead of relying on the unverified information available on the internet.
