A list is being circulated on social media with the claim that COVID variants are ‘released’ one by one. The list also contains suggested release dates of these variants with logos of WHO and John Hopkins implying that it is an approved list from the institutes. We fact-checked and found that the claim is false.
The Claim
“These are the PLANNED VARIANTS with the dates when they will be “released” to the media. The shot does NOT prevent a disease that does not exist,” reads such a Facebook post. Such a post can be seen here and here. A snapshot is given below.

Is there a schedule for the release of virus made by WHO, John Hopkins and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation?
No. There is no such public list available anywhere.
This is a conspiracy theory and like most conspiracy theories it doesn’t have any evidence supporting the claim.
We checked the website and social media channels of WHO, John Hopkins, and Gates Foundation. There was no such list available.
One of the social media posts that made the claim mentioned about Centre for Health Security referring that the website will contain further information about this. We checked the web URL mentioned in the claim. It is a website for an event that happened in 2019. There was nothing related to the schedule of release of Covid variants on that particular website.
