Quick Take

A social media post claims that most of the world’s population is still unvaccinated. We fact-checked and found this claim to be False.

The Claim

A Twitter post reads “and this is the same story we are being fed. This pandemic has some way to go, with most of the world’s population still unvaccinated. As we know, it’s not over until the fat lady sings – and she doesn’t even have the songsheet yet.”

Fact Check

How many people have been vaccinated till now?

According to the data by the University of Oxford’s  Our World in Data, till August 16, 2022, 12.46 billion doses have been administered globally, and 5.89 million are now administered each day.

They further state that 67.4% of the world population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Only 20.7% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose. This shows that most of the population is vaccinated despite the claim.

What is the vaccination status in India?

Until August 16, 2022, as per the Government of India, the total doses administered till date comprised of more than two billion (2,08,43,74,294) doses. Out of this more than 1 billion people (1,02,31,05,366) are administered with the first dose and the rest of the number comprise of second dose and the precaution dose. Most of India’s population is administered with at least one dose and the number is increasing day by day.

Hence, despite the claims, the majority of the population is vaccinated as proven by the numbers. Therefore, the claim is false.
