Quick Take

A social media post has become viral that claims that CDC has published data declaring that 7 out of 10 Americans are refusing COVID-19 vaccination. We fact-checked and found that the claim is False.
The Claim
The misleading tweet reads, “Turns out CDC quietly released data showing that 7 out of 10 Americans are declining the experimental gene therapy.”. The post was also shared on Facebook and Instagram. Versions of the post can be seen here, here, and here.
Fact Check
Did CDC release a data showing seven out of 10 Americans are declining a COVID-19 vaccine?
No. CDC has not published any such data.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the apex body in the US related to public health. Any data published by them will be available in the newsroom section of their website. We checked and confirmed that CDC didn’t publish any such data.
Further, a news report was published in USA Today on the same subject. A CDC spokesperson confirmed to USA Today that there was no report released claiming 7 out of 10 Americans are refusing to get vaccinated.
Are Americans refusing COVID-19 vaccination in general?
Vaccine Hesitancy and Vaccine Resistance ( delay in acceptance or refusal of vaccines despite availability of vaccine services) is a problem in the United States. One recent survey among working professionals showed 64% of employees may refuse to get vaccinated. Another recent poll conducted by YouGov and Economist shows that one out of five Americans continues to refuse vaccines.
CDC also maintains an estimation of vaccine hesitancy across US states. The data can be checked LIVE here. However, there is no data published by CDC about seven out of 10 Americans refusing vaccine (as claimed by the fake news).
Also, Vaccine Hesitancy is not a unique problem in the US. It is true to most nations across the world.
