The Claim

The post on the website named Substack reads, “After millions of pregnant & breast-feeding women were urged incessantly to take the controversial mRNA shots, we are FINALLY being told by a JAMA publication that the vaccines are passed through the breast milk to the baby. Many pregnant, breastfeeding & future mothers were COERCED & FORCED to take these shots and subject their current and future babies to possible deleterious effects. They deserve justice. …

According to the US HHS’s VAERS system, at least 6 babies have been reported DEAD after drinking their vaccinated mothers’ breast milk.”The page further shares a few incidents that are sharing the stories of the babies’ death.

Fact Check

Is it safe to get vaccinated when breastfeeding?

It seems so. Various health organizations, such as the  American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), recommend that everyone should receive the COVID-19 vaccine, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Serum Institute of India states that “The current guidelines of the Indian Government state that COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all lactating women.” However, all breastfeeding mothers must get a risk-benefit assessment done by their healthcare provider before getting vaccinated.

Also, an article published in Havard Health states that the virus in the vaccines is not live; therefore, you can neither get COVID-19 nor give it to your baby. Secondly, whenever a person receives the vaccine, the particles of vaccines are used up by the muscle cells at the injection site and are unlikely to get into breast milk. And even if some of it reaches the breast milk, it would likely be digested. Lastly, after getting vaccinated, a person’s immune system produces antibodies against the disease and these pass through the breastmilk, thus benefitting the babies as well.

Did a few babies die by drinking vaccinated mothers’ breast milk?

Not exactly. There is no evidence to support such claims, and alleged cases are unverifiable. The cases that are published in the post are said to be published in VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System), a national safety-alert program for vaccines. The records documented in VAERS do not show the mothers of these babies nor which hospital they were at. The report shows other illnesses the baby experienced before dying but has no medical reports attached to them which can be verified. It must be noted that VAERS is a federal database where anyone can submit a report on a potential vaccine after-effect.

The CDC states, “A report to VAERS does not mean that a vaccine caused an adverse event.” Also there have been several instances in the past where people misinterpreted reports of death after getting vaccinated. Whereas some of the reports might be correct, and others might be just adverse health effects not related to vaccination at all.

It must be taken into account that the reports documented in VAERS are widely accessible but are not verified. It can even be used to spread misinformation and can also lead anti-vaxxers to promote unproven connections between vaccines and health events. On several occasions they claim that CDC has removed VAERS from its website.
THIP Media Take: There is no scientific evidence that can be proves that these babies lost their lives due to the breastmilk of vaccinated mothers. The reports documented in VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) can be published by anyone, and just reporting there doesn’t prove the authenticity of the adverse event. Therefore, the claims stand false until proven otherwise.
