A rumor has spread on social media claiming that fast food outlet company McDonald’s has declared that it will not hire anyone who has dealt in Cryptocurrency. We fact-checked and found that the claim is False.
The Claim
“I’ve never worked in an McD before.. And it seems that I can no longer even apply for a job at McD,” says one of the social media users who shared a post claiming “McDonald’s will not hire any individual that has held, traded or sold cryptocurrencies.”

What is Cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is a virtual, digital currency. It can be used as payment that can be exchanged online for goods and services. They are not governed by a country or authority. Popular cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether etc.
Did McDonald’s say that they will not hire anyone who dealt in Cryptocurrecy?
No. They did not. It is a piece of random fake news.
McDonald’s is a fast-food chain and they have comparatively friendly employee policies. In a past report about its working culture, BBC had reported, “McDonald’s employment practices have always been, in a physical sense, more open than most.” McDonald’s corporate blog says,”People come to work at a McDonald’s because they want the chance to be a part of a community and grow as individuals.”
So for a company like McD, a policy as big as deciding not to hire people traded in cryptocurrencies will be well documented and openly communicated. We searched and found no such communication in media or the company website.
We also checked the company’s Twitter timeline. The alleged Tweet was not available on the company’s timeline.
When Fact-Checking website Check Your Fact reached out to McDonald’s regarding the matter, the company clarified, “this is a fake post and not published from an official McDonald’s account.”
