Quick Take
A social media post claims that a mixture of sugar, milk and flour can remove unwanted hair permanently. After a thorough fact check, we found that this claim is false.

The Claim
An Instagram video claims you can remove unwanted hair forever using a home remedy. It says to boil 2 spoons of sugar with half a glass of milk and half a glass of water. After boiling, let it cool and mix in some wheat flour and a little honey. According to the video, this paste removes hair from the roots without pain. It also claims that just one use keeps hair away for 150 years. The caption says it works in 2 minutes, but the voiceover says 5 to 10 minutes.

Fact Check
Can sugar, milk, water, wheat flour, and honey permanently remove hair?
No, this is incorrect. There is no scientific evidence or medical basis to support the claim that this mixture can permanently remove hair. Hair growth is a complex biological process involving hair follicles located beneath the skin’s surface. Permanent hair removal ideally requires targeting and destroying these follicles, which is beyond the capability of a topical home remedy.

Dr Ekansh Shekhar, Dermatologist, Cosmetologist, Trichologist, and Aesthetic Medicine Consultant based in Lucknow, explains, “There’s no scientific reason to believe that a mix of sugar, milk, water, wheat flour, and honey can remove hair permanently. These are common kitchen ingredients that might stick to surface hair and help pull it out, much like sugaring or homemade waxing. But they don’t reach the root or damage the hair follicle, which is essential for permanent hair removal. Hair will grow back, sometimes even within days. For lasting results, treatments like laser hair removal or electrolysis are the only proven options. Homemade pastes may seem harmless, but they’re not magic, and certainly not a substitute for medically-approved methods.”
Hair removal creams are another popular option, though they too have their own pros and cons, which we’ve explored earlier.
Will applying this mixture remove hair from the root without pain or cost?
No, this is an entirely misleading claim. Some temporary hair removal methods, like waxing (which involve pulling hair from the root), can be somewhat painful. But, a simple paste like the one described will not effectively remove hair from the root, especially not painlessly. The ingredients listed, such as, sugar, milk, water, wheat flour, and honey, lack any properties known to dissolve or detach hair follicles in a significant way. At best, such a paste might offer a very mild exfoliating effect or stick to surface hair, but it would not provide painless removal from the root, nor would it be a substitute for professional hair removal techniques.
Will hair not grow back for 150 years after one application?
No. This claim is baseless and biologically impossible. Even with advanced and costly professional hair removal treatments, such as laser hair removal or electrolysis, hair reduction is the more realistic outcome, and multiple sessions are required to achieve long-term results. No known method, whether professional or home-based, can guarantee hair will not grow back for such an extended period as 150 years after a single application. Hair follicles go through growth cycles, and even if some hair is removed, new hair will eventually grow back unless the follicle is permanently damaged.

Dr Rashi Soni, Co-founder and Consulting Dermatologist, Aesthetician, and Hair Transplant Surgeon at Rashi Hospital in Mumbai, warns, “The idea that hair won’t grow back for 150 years after using a homemade paste is simply not possible. Hair growth is a natural and ongoing process controlled by the body’s hormones and genetics. Even advanced treatments like laser hair removal need multiple sessions and don’t always guarantee permanent results. A paste made from sugar, milk, flour, and honey cannot affect the hair follicle deep enough to stop hair from ever growing again. These claims may sound exciting, but they are not based on science. It’s important to stay informed and not fall for miracle promises that don’t match how the human body works.”
Is this a “magical” way to remove hair?
No, this is not. The term “magical” in this context often indicates a lack of scientific explanation and is a common characteristic of misleading health and beauty claims. Effective hair removal, especially permanent reduction, relies on understanding the biology of hair growth and using methods that interact with this biology, rather than relying on unproven “magical” concoctions.
Similarly, we have also debunked the claim that aloe vera, hot milk and sugar mixture can permanently remove body hair.
THIP Media Take
This claim is false. The idea that a simple mixture can remove unwanted hair permanently for 150 years after just one application is entirely without scientific merit. Hair removal is a nuanced process, and claims of effortless, permanent, and long-lasting solutions, especially at no cost, should always be met with scepticism. For effective and safe hair removal, it is advisable to consult with dermatologists or qualified professionals.
