Fact Check: Can Pfizer vaccines harm the heart and brain?

Are Pfizer vaccines dangerous?
Not really. The rise in spiked protein concentration in the brain and heart tissues is not due to Pfizer's mRNA vaccine. It is important to note that protein subunit vaccines, as opposed to mRNA vaccines, can also result in an increase in spike proteins and viral infection. However, myocarditis cases have been linked to the mRNA vaccine.

Quick Take

Half True rating

A widely shared YouTube video that equates spike proteins with all COVID vaccines rather than the actual virus is misleading. After checking the claim’s accuracy, our research showed that it is only Half True.

The Claim

According to a widely shared YouTube video titled “Vaccine Brain Injury,” the COVID vaccines, particularly the gene-based COVID-19 vaccines made by Pfizer, may be to blame for heart and brain damage. According to the video, the increased levels of spike proteins discovered in the brain and heart tissue are linked to the vaccine rather than an actual infection.

Fact Check

What purpose do spike proteins serve?

The virus that has been responsible for the global COVID-19 disease outbreak is known as SARS-CoV-2. One of their crucial biological characteristics is the presence of spike proteins, which allow SARS-CoV-2 and a number of other viruses to enter host cells and spread infection. The S protein is essential for invading host cells and starting an infection, in contrast to the M and E proteins, which are primarily involved in virus assembly. Notably, the S proteins found on coronaviruses are what cause their spike-like surface protrusions.

Considering that the S proteins allow for virus-host interaction, therefore, research on vaccines and antivirals should focus on the S protein. In addition to its role in penetrating cells, the S protein of viruses, particularly the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is a significant inducer of neutralizing antibodies (NAbs). Our humoral immune system naturally produces protective antibodies called NAbs.

Do Pfizer vaccines have the potential to produce spike proteins that are harmful to the heart and brain?

First and foremost, it needs to be made clear that many vaccines introduce weakened or inactive germs into our bodies in order to elicit an immune response. However, with mRNA vaccines, this is not the case. And Pfizer is an mRNA vaccine. These mRNA vaccines instruct our cells to produce a protein—or even just a portion of a protein—that sets off an immune response in our bodies using mRNA that was created in a lab. The immune response that results in the production of antibodies aids in preventing future infections from that germ.

mRNA vaccines do not contain any components of the virus that causes COVID-19, but protein subunit vaccines do. These virus fragments are the spike proteins. It should be made clear that the SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as vaccination could both result in the development of anti-spike protein antibodies. The mRNA vaccine has been linked to cases of myocarditis, but despite our research, we were unable to discover any clear scientific evidence to support the theory that Pfizer-induced spike proteins can indicate damage to the heart and brain.

What side effects are brought on by COVID-19 vaccines?

The World Health Organization states that experiencing mild side effects following vaccination is common. Like with any vaccine, some recipients of the COVID-19 shot may experience mild to moderate side effects. This is a typical indication that the body is creating defenses. Fever, exhaustion, headache, muscle ache, chills, diarrhoea, and pain or redness at the injection site are all side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. The majority of these usual side effects go away on their own within a few days.

However, if your side effects persist after a few days or if the pain in the arm where you received the injection worsens, you should seek advice from your doctor. It must be emphasized that the doctor could always manage these side effects by advising sufficient rest, lots of non-alcoholic fluids, painkillers, and fever-relieving medications.

Although extremely rare, COVID-19 vaccine side effects could be more severe or last longer. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, loss of speech, or mobility following your vaccination. Vaccines are continuously monitored for the duration of their use to identify and address any uncommon adverse events.

THIP MEDIA TAKE: We conclude that because Pfizer is an mRNA vaccine, it is not the cause of the spike in protein concentration in the brain and heart tissues. Additionally, it needs to be emphasized that protein subunit vaccines, rather than mRNA vaccines, can also contribute to an increase in spike proteins, along with viral infection. Myocarditis cases, however, have been linked to the mRNA vaccine, so we deduce that the claim is only half true.
