A social media post claims that if an egg is consumed with bacon or tea, it can lead to death. We fact-checked and found that the claim lacks credible scientific evidence and, thus, is Mostly False until proven otherwise. The combination of these food items can be bad for health, but there is no proof that it will lead to death.
The title of a Facebook reel (translated from Hindi to English) reads, “Consuming these three items with eggs will lead to death.” Furthermore, the narrator explains that eating an egg with bacon makes one lethargic, consuming an egg with a combination of tea leads to constipation, and milk-related food items consumed with egg should be avoided.
Can the combination of eggs with bacon be deadly?
Not exactly. There is no scientific evidence to prove that the combination of bacon and egg is deadly. Eggs are a rich source of nutrients; they are high in proteins and contain antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. The combination of eggs with bacon can’t be fatal, but it can cause digestive issues. Also, for people with high cholesterol, this combination is not recommended. Bacon and eggs can be a healthy breakfast option if eaten in moderation.
For expert advice, we checked with Dt. Priyanka, who states, “Eggs and bacon may not be good because both of them are high in protein and fat. But you can’t say it is a deadly combination. It is also not good to combine the two food items if you want to lose weight or you have a digestive complaint.”
Can the combination of eggs with tea be deadly?
Not exactly. Eggs and tea are not advised to be consumed in combination as it can reduce protein absorption. In the long run, the body lacks protein, which can increase the risk of fatty liver. Similarly, the absorption of iron from eggs may also be hampered if it is consumed with tea. Therefore, it is not recommended to consume the two together, but there are no scientific studies that prove that it can be fatal.
Dt. Priyanka also comments on this by stating, “Consumption of eggs with tea has an impact on the absorption of protein as polyphenols present in tea form insoluble complexes which may be difficult to digest and absorb. Hence, tea and eggs are not a good combination. But you can’t say it’s a deadly combination, it just reduces the amount of protein absorbed.”
THIP Media Take: There is no credible evidence that combining tea or bacon with eggs can be fatal. It can cause other health issues, and is, therefore, not advisable to consume them together, but it won’t be a cause for death.
