A number of Facebook posts claim that Aloe plants can purify indoor air by absorbing Carbon Di-Oxide. We fact-checked and found that the claim is mostly true. However, Aloe is not the ONLY plant that can eliminate indoor toxins.
“Aloe is one of the best air purifiers,” claims a Facebook post. “Just one aloe plant can achieve what 9 biological air purifiers can do. It can absorb Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide and Formaldehyde,” claims a number of other Facebook posts. Such posts can be seen here, and here. A screenshot is given below.
Can Aloe plants absorb Carbon Dioxide and purify air?
Yes. Aloe Vera plants can absorb Carbon Dioxide. In fact, a research has shown that Aloe Vera plants can absorb Carbon Dioxide more effectively than many other indoor plants.
However, there are other indoor plants that too can absorb Carbon Dioxide and many other toxins present in indoor settings.
Are Aloe plants the most effective air purifying?
No. A lot of other indoor plants can absorb and eliminate toxic elements. A research by NASA in 1989 has shown that a number of houseplants can absorb harmful toxins from the air, especially in enclosed spaces with little air flow.
Aloe Vera Plants are not the ONLY plants that can absorb Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide and Formaldehyde.
Other plants that can absorb such toxins in indoor settings are Spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum), Areca palms (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens), Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum morifolium), Rubber plants (Ficus elastic) and many others. Some of these plants can absorb even more toxins than Aloe Vera plants. For example, Chrysanthemums can absorb Benzene, a toxic element that Aloe plants cannot effectively eliminate.
