A social media post claims that a juice of guava, paan, turmeric and greens can dissolve tumours quickly. After fact checking, we found it to be false.

The Claim

An Instagram video claims that a homemade juice can treat lumps, rasauli and tumours in just 3 days. The post tells viewers to make a juice using 2 guava leaves, 2 peepal leaves, 2 banyan leaves, 4 to 5 betel (paan) leaves, one leafy vegetable like bathua, spinach, fenugreek or amaranth, a piece of ginger, a large piece of raw turmeric, one beetroot and one amla. It also advises drinking this juice on an empty stomach while avoiding all other foods for 3 days. The person in the video says that patients should not eat any other food, fruits, dairy, regular salt or sugar. Only sendha namak, or rock salt, can be used.

Fact Check

Can such a juice remove tumours or fibroids in 3 days?

No, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that drinking a juice made from these ingredients can cure tumours or rasauli (a word commonly used for cysts or lumps). Tumours, whether benign or cancerous, do not disappear with dietary changes alone, especially not within days.

Medical treatment for tumours usually includes surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or a combination, depending on the type and stage. Ignoring such conditions in favour of juice-only remedies could delay proper treatment and cause serious harm.

Do guava, peepal, paan or banyan leaves have tumour-fighting properties?

Not proven. Some of these leaves have been studied in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory or antioxidant effects. But, none have been proven in human studies to shrink or remove tumours.

For example, peepal and banyan leaves are popular in Ayurveda, but their effects on cancer or tumours have not been confirmed through clinical trials. Betel leaves may have antimicrobial properties but are also linked to oral cancer when chewed with tobacco. Guava leaves have some antioxidant effects, but again, there is no proof that they can treat any kind of tumour in humans.

Can turmeric, beetroot and amla alone treat serious conditions like cancer?

No, these are nutritious foods with antioxidant properties, but they are not cures. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has been studied for its anti-inflammatory and potential anti-cancer effects, but in very high doses, and often in lab conditions. It has not been proven to cure cancer or shrink tumours in humans by itself. Beetroot and amla are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, but again, they cannot replace proper medical care.

Is juice fasting for 3 days safe or effective in treating growths in the body?

No. Scientific consensus does not recommend juice-only fasts for serious conditions like tumours or cancers. Following such a strict diet for 3 days can lead to weakness, loss of important minerals, and may delay proper medical care. Completely avoiding fruits, salt, and other nutrients can do more harm than good. Relying only on sendha namak (rock salt) does not make up for the lack of essential nutrition.

Some research, including a 2022 review, does suggest that certain types of fasting might support cancer treatment by slowing cancer cell growth and reducing side effects. But this research is still developing. Experts clearly advise that fasting should only be used alongside standard medical treatment, not as a replacement.

Dr P Rammanohar

We spoke to Dr P. Rammanohar, Research Director at Amrita School of Ayurveda, for his expert opinion on this juice remedy. He explained that there is no single cure for lumps, fibroids or tumours, as these can have many different causes and types. Each condition needs proper diagnosis and treatment. He added that while some herbs may show promise in lab studies, there is no strong clinical evidence to support using them as proven treatments in humans. Relying on such remedies without medical guidance can delay proper care.

Dr Muskan Thakur, BAMS, Indore

Dr Muskan Thakur, Ayurveda Consultant from Indore, also disagrees with the claim. She explains that science does not support treating serious conditions like advanced tumours with only herbal juices or a special diet. Stage 4 cancers, for example, need proper medical care such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or surgery, depending on the case. Ayurveda may help alongside treatment by easing symptoms, improving strength, and reducing side effects. But it should not replace standard medical care. She advises consulting both an oncologist and a trained Ayurvedic doctor for safe and effective treatment.

Dr Annusuiya Gohil, Ayurveda Doctor

We also spoke to Dr Annusuiya Gohil, MD Scholar at the All India Institute of Ayurveda, about the claim that home remedies can cure tumours or lumps in a few days with home remedies. She called the claim misleading and dangerous. A tumour, especially if it develops into cancer, is a serious condition that requires proper medical treatment. Saying that a juice made from herbs and vegetables can cure cancer ignores the complexity of the disease and the careful treatment it demands.

Dr Gohil explained that Ayurveda is a complete medical system, not just home remedies or simple herbal drinks. It involves detailed diagnosis and treatments based on a person’s unique body type and the disease’s nature. Treatments can include herbs, diet, lifestyle changes, and therapies like Panchakarma. Just drinking herbs or juices without proper guidance is not real Ayurvedic treatment.

She stressed that anyone with cancer should consult qualified doctors, whether in modern medicine, Ayurveda, or both. Ayurvedic doctors can offer supportive therapies to work alongside conventional treatments. Dr Gohil warned that promoting unproven cures for cancer is not only scientifically wrong but also very irresponsible. She advised people to be cautious and always seek expert medical advice.

In the same way, we have also debunked claims that a juice diet can trigger autophagy and cure stage 4 cancer.

THIP Media Take

The claim that a juice of guava, paan, turmeric and greens can dissolve tumours quickly is false. Tumours are serious medical conditions that require proper diagnosis and treatment. Relying on unproven home remedies may delay effective care and worsen health outcomes. Always consult a qualified doctor for lumps, growths or tumours.
