The Claim

A video circulating on Facebook says that Chinese people do not take blood pressure medicines or visit doctors. Instead, they use a homemade ginger drink that clears cholesterol from blood vessels and brings down high blood pressure within two days. The woman in the video claims this drink removes toxins through urine and stool and makes symptoms like dizziness, breathlessness, chest pain and fast heartbeat disappear. She urges viewers to click a link to know how to make this drink.

Fact Check

Can ginger cure high blood pressure in two days?

No, there is no evidence that ginger can cure high blood pressure quickly. Ginger is known to have benefits for heart health when used regularly over time. It may help slightly lower blood pressure because of its natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, no study shows that ginger can cure hypertension in just two days or that it can replace prescribed medications.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a long-term condition. It needs regular monitoring and management. Quick-fix solutions like this are not only misleading but can be dangerous if they stop people from taking their doctor-prescribed medicines.

Dr Ubaid ur Rahman

Dr Ubaid ur Rahman, General Physician at Holy Mission Clinic in New Delhi, explains, “Ginger is a healthy spice with some anti-inflammatory properties, and it may offer some benefits for heart health when included as part of a balanced diet. But the idea that it can cure high blood pressure in just two days is simply not true. Blood pressure is influenced by many factors like stress, salt intake, weight, genetics and lifestyle habits. No single ingredient can fix it overnight. Managing high blood pressure usually involves long-term changes, sometimes along with medication. Ginger alone cannot replace proper medical care.”

Similarly, another home remedy claims that drinking a juice made from a combination of green leafy vegetables daily can cure high blood pressure. However, this claim is false.

Does cholesterol build-up cause high blood pressure?

Partly true, but the claim is oversimplified. Cholesterol deposits can narrow the arteries and reduce blood flow, which may increase blood pressure over time. But high blood pressure has many causes. These include genetics, high salt intake, stress, obesity, alcohol use, lack of exercise, certain medicines and age-related changes, to name a few.

It is wrong to say that cholesterol is the only cause of high blood pressure. Managing high BP usually needs a mix of lifestyle changes, regular exercise, a healthy diet and medicines if needed. No single drink or ingredient can act as a cure-all.

Dr Almas Fatma, General Physician

Dr Almas Fatma, Diploma in Family Medicine, PG in Digital Health, General Physician from Navi Mumbai, says, “Cholesterol build-up in the arteries can play a role in high blood pressure, but it’s not the only cause. When cholesterol collects along the walls of blood vessels, it can make them narrower and less flexible. This puts extra pressure on the heart to pump blood through, which may raise blood pressure over time. But high blood pressure isn’t caused by just one thing. It’s often a mix of factors like genetics, age, salt intake, lack of exercise, stress and even certain medications. So, while keeping cholesterol levels in check is important, managing blood pressure usually needs a more complete approach.”

Do Chinese people avoid doctors and treat BP at home?

No, this is an inaccurate and exaggerated claim. China has a large healthcare system and millions of people with hypertension. As per a 2023 national survey, the prevalence of hypertension in China was 24.7% in 2018. In fact, studies have shown that many people in China take blood pressure medicines, and the government has specific programmes for heart health. Like in other countries, not everyone manages their BP well, but that doesn’t mean the entire population treats it at home with one remedy.

Claiming that a whole population ignores medical advice and lives to 110 years based on a secret drink is simply false.

Is this video reliable?

No, the video appears highly suspicious and may be linked to an online scam. The same footage is repeated several times while the audio continues without matching lip movement, suggesting possible manipulation. At times, a calculator flashes on the screen, and viewers are urged to click on a link for more details. Out of caution, we followed the link using a device protected with antivirus software. It led to a vague article promoting the benefits of “Nordic walking,” with no mention of any drink or home remedy. At the end of the page, there was only an option to place an order by entering your name and phone number.

To verify the source further, we extracted a keyframe from the video and ran it through Google Lens and Yandex reverse image search. However, we found no credible information to help identify the woman shown in the video.

This suggests the video is a bait-and-switch tactic to mislead users and possibly collect their personal data.

No, never click on such suspicious links. Cybercriminals today often use fake health claims and videos, sometimes even deepfakes of celebrities, to trick people into scams. These posts may seem helpful but can be harmful in many ways, ranging from spreading misinformation to stealing personal data, or even committing financial fraud through fake orders.

Always verify such posts before acting on them. When in doubt, consult a qualified doctor.

THIP Media Take

The claim that a ginger drink can cure high blood pressure in just two days is false. There is no scientific proof that a ginger drink can cure hypertension in two days or that Chinese people treat blood pressure this way. The viral video uses misleading tactics to promote a fake cure. High blood pressure is a complex condition that requires proper medical care. Falling for such claims may delay real treatment and cause harm. Stay alert, don’t click on unknown links, and always follow your doctor’s advice.
