A number of people believe that vaccine manufacturing companies are updating their vaccine ingredient for every batch of production. This has also been claimed by a few social media influencers. We fact-checked and found that the claim is false.
The Claim
While claiming that the vaccine manufacturers are changing ingredients, some Instagram users further claimed that the common man is experimented on by the manufacturing companies. One such post can be seen here.
Fact Check
Are the vaccine ingredients publicly available?
Yes. Vaccine ingredients are publicly available. Most major vaccine manufacturers have published the list of ingredients. For example, in the United States of America, vaccine ingredient list is available in FDA’s website for Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
In India, the ingredients of Covaxin and Covieshield are maintained by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Are vaccine manufacturing companies updating the vaccine ingredients?
No. There is no proof that the vaccine manufacturers are tweaking the original list of ingredients.
For starters, changing list of ingredients and rolling out new vaccine formula is subject to Research & Development and subject to Clinical Trials, all of which needs to be documented and published in public domain. Also, any change of vaccine formula will require separate set of approval by the USFDA and also by the authority bodies of various countries where the vaccine is currently administered. It is only natural that if any such thing happens, it will be covered by media platforms.
We found no evidence of any of the above.
Moreover, the list of vaccine ingredient published at the start and what it exist today is exactly same.
US Today had further reached out to Pfizer and a spokesperson of the company had confirmed to the media house that there had been no change of vaccine ingredient after it had been launched.
